Blood Banks

Blood Banks collect, type and separate blood into components, (apheresis), i.e. plasma, platelets and red and white blood cells – to be used for victims who’ve suffered traumatic injuries in accidents and natural disasters, for patients undergoing surgery or patients receiving treatment/transfusions for diseases such as cancer. Approximately 21 million blood components are transfused in the United States each year. And blood and its components cannot be manufactured – they come from donors. With an aging population, scientific advances and the increased number of medical procedures requiring blood transfusions, this need continues to grow. Thus, blood storage is critical – reliability key – requiring minimal maintenance and consistent temperature control.
